HARRISBURG – In just his second term in office, Rep. Lou Schmitt (R-Blair) was named to the House Appropriations Committee, the committee charged with examining the governor’s budget proposal and crafting a responsible budget.
“The Appropriations Committee is tasked with the important job of crafting the Commonwealth’s budget each year,” its chairman, Rep. Stan Saylor (R-York), said. “Rep. Schmitt is very thoughtful and a hard-working legislator. I look forward to his participation with the Appropriations Committee as we continue to protect taxpayers through responsible budgeting.”
Schmitt assumes the role of committee member after Rep. Rosemary Brown (R- Monroe/Pike) left the committee to be chairwoman of the Urban Affairs Committee.
“COVID-19 and business closures wreaked havoc on Pennsylvania’s economy,” Schmitt said. “It caused holes to be poked into state finances and has put the state in a very precarious situation. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I look forward to finding real solutions to these financial issues and creating a responsible budget that respects taxpayers and doesn’t leaving them in the lurch paying higher taxes.”
In addition, Schmitt is serving on the Insurance, State Government, Transportation and Urban Affairs committees. He is also the chairman of the Subcommittee on Railroads under the House Transportation Committee and is the secretary of the House State Government Committee.
