Schmitt to Hold License Plate Replacement Event
August 4, 2025
ALTOONA – Drivers with a damaged or illegible license plate can get it replaced at an event Rep. Lou Schmitt (R-Altoona) is hosting in Logan Township later this month.
“This event will make it fast and simple for drivers to start the process of replacing damaged or illegible license plates,” Schmitt said. “Over time, plates can wear down or become unreadable, and this is a convenient way to get the ball rolling on a replacement.”
The damaged license plate replacement event will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 4-6 p.m. at the Newburg Fire Association, 2805 Washington Ave. in Logan Township. Officers from the Logan Township Police Department will check the plates to determine the need for replacement.
A registration plate is deemed illegible when one or more numbers or letters cannot be recognized from 50 feet or if the registration plate shows any blistering, peeling, discoloration or loss of reflectivity. Drivers must bring the vehicle with the affected plate attached, along with an unexpired driver’s license and current vehicle registration card. PennDOT will issue an older style blue and yellow plate for free.
For residents who would like the new plate featuring the Liberty Bell, the cost is $14, or free if replacing a personalized plate.
